Ribs 1/24/2010

We made ribs this past sunday. Started the coals using the minion method and went to church. It took about 1.5 hours to come up to temp. I think next time I should just put in a lit chimney of charcoal to get it up to temp quicker, then put in the basket for the minion method. We cooked 2 racks of baby backs using the 3-2-1 method. Used foil in the 2 hour stretch. Next time we should add our mop or apple juice or something to the ribs before foiling. Also maybe drop it to 1 hour in the foil and then 30 min on the last stretch with the mop. They were tasty, but a little too mushy. A little firmer would be good and I think the less time in the foil would help that. the temp was about 50 degrees and mostly no rain most of the day. I used about a bag of charcoal or maybe more. Way more fuel that I should have needed. We also cooked potatoes, pork chops and ABTs. those took about 1 chimney of charcoal so it wasn't enough to make any difference. I also want to get a bag of apple or peach wood for next time and see if that makes any difference over mesquite. The temps stayed consistant the whole time. 250 in the middle on the grates. The grate by the box was 250-300 the entire time and the far end was 200 to 250. Also want to put in apple juice or some other juice in the water pan instead of water. That's about all for this time. I'll write more next time.

plop in the toilet goes everything

So, these past few weekends have been beautiful. Now, this weekend we are to go camping and the weather looks crappy. Well isn't that a surprise. Earnest will you please shut up? No one cares what you say. It's all a lie anyway. Camping will still be fun. I'm actually looking forward the most to the campfire. It's nice when it's so warm and the area away from the fire is cold. I like that. We got our birdfeeder thing up. It still looks pretty bad, but it's solid and looks like it might actually work okay. I filled up the feeders this morning. Didn't see anyone eat at it yet. We have had some big loud blue jays there the past few days. They mostly eat peanuts and fly them away. Then they try to run their heads into the wall. Tomorrow night we get to go see the shining on the big screen. I hope they have buckets of popcorn cause my head will be in one most of the movie. It's scary. I'm scary too. But it's really scary. Hereeeeeeee'sss johnny. Yikes. Boo. Who said that. It was probably johnny. All work and no play makes johnny a dull boy. redrum redrum redrum. It's like a commercial years ago for a gabor weekend. Little kid was in the bathroom saying robag robag robag. Ummm yeah. If my kids ever talk through their finger, I might have to put a clothes pin on their finger to shut them up. heh heh. or a staple gun. Either or. They both work. I have some pink water today. It was wild berry. Now it's kiwi strawberry. But it's pink. I wish it was strawberry milk. Yum. I caught a big fish last week. It was a largemouth bass and about 6lbs. I have pics but don't know how to upload them. Since then it's been pretty slow. I've had a few bites but nothing too amazing. Finally caught something on my buzzbait. I like those. They make bubbles. I saw a black mouse out there tonight. It ran right behind me. There were a bunch of ducks and geese on the lake. It was cold though. I think it will be a chilly weekend. Anyway, that's about all I have to write about now. I'm hoping after Nov 4 people can stop hating each other so much. It's really gotten stupid.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww

apple flavored water is really really bad

Whoops There it went!! Whoops there it went

This is a long day. I was up late last night and up since 4 this morning. I'm here at working looking at truck parts all day so far. It seems like a different lifetime when I looked at truck parts. Nothing seems familiar about it. It's weird. I am looking at the flowmaster 40 series and I really can't remember what it sounded like. I know I used to have one. I'm sure I liked the sound of it, but I really don't remember. My last one I had wasn't a flowmaster. It was some off brand and was huge. It was a single in dual out. I don't remember if it was loud or not, but I do know it didn't sound like my flowmaster. Whatever that sounded like. I really don't remember. I'm just afraid it will be too stupid loud. I would fit in though with the other trucks around.

It was weird driving home from work last night. It was crazy dark out. Except for the constant lightning. Looked like a rave party. boom shhh boom shhh boom shhh. I was looking out over the long hood and the green gauges and it seemed so foreign, but like I had done it before. Kinda like a deja vu that you know never really happened, but you still think it did for some reason. Live maybe I've been asleep most of my life. I don't know. I feel so out of it today. I get to go out and look for some fish in about a half hour. there was heavy rain last night so most of them have probably washed way and are in the big lake across the street. That's about all I have for right now.

Doop Doop Poop Poop

I'm back. I told you I would be back. Well I am. The man shaped like a giraffe is back. Okay, I look nothing like a giraffe. I wish I did though. They are cool. Anywho, I done picked up my pick up last thursday. I test drove the mini and I liked it. But come on, 13k for 92k miles. Ummm no. So I was goofing off on the internet and found this ranger that I liked. So I went and test drove it. And now it's in our driveway. Well, not at this moment. right now it's outside my work. But you get the idea. It's white (like an iTruck) 98 ford ranger. The interior is perfect. The cover over the bed was torn a bit and I couldn't get it to stretch to snap down. My fingers are all torn up from trying. So, now I have this new cover which is kind of different. But I think it will work out well.

This past weekend we went to the Weird Al concert. It was awesome. But weird al always is. Saturday night we went to the kentucky headhunters concert up in lawrence. It was a great show. I've never been able to con anyone into going with me. No one ever wanted to go. But my awesome wife went and seemed to actually enjoy them. So Nah nah nah to everyone who wouldn't go with me before. It's actually a good show.

More on the truck. I think it was a good buy. I know the reliability is there. It's a great truck in great condition. I think it was a good thing to do. I know a lot of people will say it wasn't. But I missed my old truck so much. I think that had a lot to do with it. Bad reason to buy I know. But it was a good deal I think. My awesome wife (there's that description again. Where is the thesaurus on here?) seems okay with it. I know she is worried about stuff, but really I think we are good. I actually for once don't feel like we will never get out from under everything and that it's a lost cause. I know we will be okay. I'm really not worried at all for once. I know whoever reads this will find some way to try to bring down my vary rare optimism (one exception of course) but I really think it's good for once. We have a place to live. We have 2 new (relatively) cars and we are paying off bills. It's good.

I have been sick the past 2 nights. I wish I knew what was wrong. But, it's not been a good sick. It's the kind that makes me want to put more books in the bathroom. Ewwwwww. TMI I know. Well, if you didn't want to know, you wouldn't be reading now would you. Once you enter the world of Jason there is no turning back. It's kinda like an evil Dr. Seuss land. Yeah there are Who's and things like that. They just happened to have the heads of large cats and feet like a giraffe. Wait, that describes a who anyway. Oopsie. I caught a fish during my break. It was a blue gill. He went back in the water and seemed happy. I went fishing yesterday morning. I still think there are no fish in Eagle Creek. All I saw out there was a little japanese guy. He didn't look like a fish. It was raining and ugly, so I left at about 10:30. luckily I didn't have to pay to get in.
That really is about all for now. I will blog later when I have anything worthy to say. I know, some say that I didn't have anything worthy to say this time either. Well, it's my blog. go get your own.

trucks clucks and ouch that sucks

It's been a while. Seems like they all begin like that. Last weekend I went down to Suds and test drove a used mini cooper. It was yellow and black. The S model. It was a 2002 and they want 13k for it. It also has 92k miles. It drove well and I really liked it. But the price is high. So no on that. I also test drove the ranger that has been sitting across our street for a long time. It seemed in decent condition, but had some rust spots. Also they didn't have insurance on it, so I could only drive it around the lot. I guess it drove okay. Couldn't really tell.

I was looking around online and found a white ranger with 66k miles on it and $8998. I went and drove it and it's in perfect condition. The interior is beautiful. The outside looks great and the engine is very clean. I drove it and it drove great too. It's got the big engine and 4 wheel drive. 2 things I don't need, but it might be fun. Especially in the winter. So, I went to the bank and they wouldn't give me a loan cause it's made before 2000. I went to the dealer and waited for a very long time, they did the financing and now I'll be picking it up tomorrow. Hopefully I can figure out how to post pics too.

Saturday night we grilled and watched the race then went to the greenwood fireworks. The race was terrible. Festival of carbon fiber. The grilling was good. We had pork chops, sweet corn, potatos, and asparagus. It was all very tasty.

Then, we walked down to downtown greenwood for the fireworks. They were nice. A lot longer than we expected. Very good show. It was a bit of a walk, but we had a decent view. We sat on the football field at the school.

The other thing I did was try to work on the birdfeeder and hammock thing I've been working on for a while. It was too tall and way too heavy. I tried to move it by myself and cracked one side. So then I asked my awesome wife to help. It was too tall for her and I dropped my end. Her end snapped her arm back and hurt her shoulder. It still hurts. Then the other side broke. So, I broke both ends completely off to try and build it a different way. I have all 3 posts in the ground and it's partially together. I still have a bit of work to do on it. It's all crooked and it needs some longer bolts on the top. I could cement it into the ground. That might help a bit. Or I can cut it up and give up on it. I think that one is likely. It's a bad design and I don't think it will work well. Then while trying to put up some of the longer boards, I had my wife holding some while I drilled and the board pulled away and fell on her head. It still hurts here. I'm bad and hurt her pretty bad twice within an hour. It's stupid cause I try to help anyone with anything. Moving, cleaning, car fixing, all kinds of stuff. But when I need help the only one willing is my wife and I end up hurting her.

Dress code

Here is the email work sent out about the new dress code. They must think we are the dirtiest most retarded pieces of trash.

Our Company's objective in establishing a dress code is to allow our employees to work comfortably in the workplace. Yet, we still need our employees to project a professional image for our customers, potential employees, and community visitors.

Our dress code is a combination of professional and business casual. Because all casual clothing is not suitable for the office, these guidelines will help you determine what is appropriate to wear to work. Clothing that works well for the beach, yard work, dance clubs, exercise sessions, and sports contests may not be appropriate for a professional appearance at work.

Suits are always appropriate attire. Casual attire may include dress slacks, dress shirt and tie and/or professional sweater. Shorts are only permitted in the warehouse environment and are to be the length of walking shorts. Proper under garments are required at all times.

Clothing that reveals any cleavage, your back, your chest, your stomach or your underwear is not appropriate for a place of business, even in a business casual setting. Clothing that gives the appearance of undergarment or underwear is not appropriate for a work environment.

Even in a business casual work environment, clothing should be pressed and never wrinkled. Torn, dirty, or frayed clothing is unacceptable. Any clothing that has words, terms, or pictures that may be offensive to other employees is unacceptable. Sports team, university, and fashion brand names on clothing are generally acceptable.

Certain days can be declared dress down days, generally Fridays. On these days, jeans and other more casual clothing, although never clothing potentially offensive to others, are allowed. Even on these dress down days we require clothing that is appropriate for a work setting.

If your dress attire is deemed inappropriate for work, you will be asked to return home to change into attire that is appropriate for work.
